Stroud sings the blues
By David Wood | 27th October 2025
On Sunday, November 2, Stroud Valleys Project is hosting a special fundraiser at the Trinity Rooms Community Hub in Field Road, Stroud.
Virtuoso guitarist Tim Hughes will present The Story of the Blues in a performance that includes demonstrations of guitar styles, drawing on the work of greats such as Muddy Waters, Bessie Smith and BB King.

Tim will be joined by harmonica player Grahame Newman as he tells the story of how this most influential style grew from the American Deep South to a genre that would change music forever, through Chicago and blues in Britain in the 60s, right up to the modern day,
Tim uses traditional bottleneck and finger-picking guitar styles to perform numbers such as 'Walking Blues', 'That'll Never Happen No More', 'Red Rooster', 'Baby Please Don't Go' and 'Paris Texas'.
This unique show will inspire a new understanding of how important the blues has been to the development of today's styles of music; it's a performance for anyone who loves music and its enduring link with social history.
A highly skilled musician who has mastered a range of techniques, Tim has performed to sell-out audiences at Sherston, Calne and Nailsworth Festivals.
A licensed bar will be available. Please wear blue if you'd like to!
The event runs from 7pm-10pm. Tickets are £10 and available via the Stroud Valleys Project website.
