Santas galore to take part in Rotary's festive fun run

Where: Start and finish Tree of Lights, Eastgate Street, Gloucester

When: Saturday, December 7, 10am

There's less than three weeks till you can witness the spectacle of over 200 people dressed in Santa suits and other festive attire running through the streets of Gloucester.

For the third year in a row The Rotary Club of Gloucester are arranging the Gloucester Santa Fun Run on Saturday, December 7. Registration opens at 9.30am and the Fun Run starts at 10am.

There is the choice of 1k or 5k runs starting and ending at the Tree of Lights in Eastgate Street outside the Guildhall.

The route will take you through the city centre and round the Cathedral and finish at the Tree of Lights for the 1k route; the 5k route takes you down to the Park and then back to where you started. Don't worry as there will be a lead runner who will show you the way

Matthew Cass, president of the Rotary Club of Gloucester, said: "Last year we had over 200 people dressed up as Santas and in other festive costumes. This year we want it to be even bigger and better so please come along and dress up if you can or buy a hat or Santa Suit on the day.

"We have prizes for best dressed adult, child or team. All money raised after costs goes to local Rotary chosen charities via the Rotary Club's Community Awards."

The 1k route will start at the Tree of Lights in Eastgate Street outside the Guildhall and go across the City Centre Cross, down College Street towards the Cathedral, left round the Cathedral and onto Northgate Street, Via Sacra and St John's Lane, up Northgate Street and take a left back into Eastgate Street and finish up at the Tree of Lights. The 1k is wheelchair friendly.

The 5k route for the more energetic, carries on past the Tree of Lights down Brunswick Road onto the park and left round the main park, on the second lap of the park you will cary on round the cricket ground and onto Spa Road and take a right heading back to the park, left at the bandstand onto Montpellier and back up Brunswick Road, take a left onto Greyfriars, right onto Southgate Street and then back at the cross onto Eastgate Street and finish up at the Tree of Lights.
