Hundreds of hospice supporters to shine bright on Saturday night

Where: St Edward's Prep School, Charlton Kings, Cheltenham

When: Saturday, October 19, from 7pm

On Saturday, October 19, hundreds of Gloucestershire residents will be taking to the streets of Cheltenham under starlight to walk 10k in memory of loved ones, raising vital funds for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice.

Shining bright in flashing lights, neon clothing and deely boppers, they'll be throwing a spotlight on the expert and compassionate care given by the hospice while raising vital funds so this care can continue.

Starlight Hike, sponsored by CAPITA, is the flagship fundraising event for the hospice offering a real night out with a difference with live music from Rock Choir and a Clubbercise warm up, creating an uplifting party atmosphere.

The walk also gives participants the chance to walk up the beautifully lit hospice drive to leave a dedication for loved ones on a wall of stars.

So far over 700 walkers have signed up to take part, and there's still the chance to take part and enjoy a night out with a difference, by registering on the night at St Edward's Prep School in Charlton Kings from 7pm. On the night registration is £20.

Matt Reay, senior community fundraiser for events at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, said: "Taking part in Starlight Hike is a truly uplifting experience as families, friends and colleagues come together to walk in memory of loved ones with live entertainment and a fun warm up before the start.

"We're really looking forward to welcoming everyone to this year's Starlight Hike which will be bigger, brighter and better than ever. If you are not already registered why not come along and sign up on the night?"

"This is our biggest fundraising event of the year and it always has a great atmosphere and looks spectacular. It really is a night to remember."

It costs £10,000 a day for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice to run all its care services including the county's only specialist palliative care inpatient unit, day hospice, hospice at home, family support and befriending service. As a charity it relies heavily on meeting this cost through the fundraising support of the local community.

For more information on how to sign up on the night, email leckhampton.events@sueryder.org  or call 01242 395450.
