By David Wood | 20th November 2018
Where: All Saints Academy School, Cheltenham.
When: Sunday, November 25, 10.15am-6pm
Over 400 musicians will descend on Cheltenham next Sunday for a whole day of music making.
The National Concert Band Festival is back in Gloucestershire for an eighth successive eighth year.
On Sunday, an impressive 400 musicians will be performing at the All Saints Academy School as part of the West of England and Wales Regional Festival.
Big Bands and Concert Bands from universities, schools and communities across the West and Wales will converge on Cheltenham to perform their hearts out in the hope of progressing to the National festival in April next year.
The festival will also feature informal performances from the Brass Quintet of the Band and Bugles of the Rifles Regiment, trade stands from local music businesses and charities and refreshments provided by the Mindsong charity.
This year, an impressive five of the 11 bands performing are from Gloucestershire and all organised by Gloucestershire Music (Local Authority Music Service).
These include the Brookfield Music Centre Principal Wind Band, Brookfield Music Centre Jazz Band, Gloucestershire Youth Jazz Academy, Forest of Dean Area Wind Band and the Gloucestershire Youth Wind Orchestra.
Steven Legge, extended learning & provisions manager for Gloucestershire Music, said: The National Concert Band Festival provides an opportunity for community, adult, youth and school music groups to perform to friends and family with the additional support of professional musicians who provide feedback on performances.
"This event helps focus bands on developing their skills with the aim of producing a 20-minute high quality performance.
"Come along and support your local bands as well as listen to some of the fine wind and jazz groups for the West of England and Wales."
Tickets are priced at £5. Visit www.gloucestershiremusic.co.uk for more details of the event on their news/events page.
