Family fun and so much more

Where: Batsford Estate, Moreton-in-Marsh

When: Saturday, September 1

Organisers of the first Moreton Show in 1949 wanted to create a showcase for local farmers and craftsmen, with the aim of improving standards.

That element of the show is still essential and while it is still a real agricultural show, there aren't many like it that pack as much into a single day.

It's probably fair to say that the word Farmtastic is not one that would have been used in 1949 but it's here now and a new feature for 2018.

Farmtastic is a celebration of farming and rural life and can be found in the Rural Attractions area. It includes the Severn and Wye Natives and Rare Breeds, Pig Agility, hedge-laying and a mini-farm - essentially a miniature version of Old Farm at Dorn, which gives up much of its land for Moreton Show. There are hens looking for new homes and Tractor Ted.

Other highlights include:

FAMILY FUN: Lamb National, working dog display, terrier racing, pony fancy dress, circus skills, vintage Land Rovers, Free Fairy Workshop, the North Cotswold Gym Club, Mighty Jamma Steel Band and the Aria Dance Group.

LIVESTOCK: Moreton Show hosts the national championships for the Poll Hereford Cattle Society and also this year, has a record number of goats.

GRAND ARENA: See the dare-devil stunt rider, the Kangaroo Kid from Australia's Gold Coast, a man and his quad bike who know no limits. It's also where the livestock winners celebrate victory in the Sheldon Bosley Knight Livestock Parade.

HORSES: The ground has been watered throughout this hot summer in readiness for what is always a festival of showing and show jumping.

DOGS: The best dog show and displays by the assistance dog charity, Dogs for Good.

FLOWERS AND VEGETABLES: Undeterred by the difficult conditions this summer, the growers have entered in record numbers in the Home & Garden marquee while the bakers and artists will be showing off their cakes, biscuits and amazing designs.

FOOD AND DRINK: The Cotswold Food Market has more than 40 stalls boast and the very best in local cheeses, pies, cakes, wines and beers.

TRADE STANDS: With 350 trade stands you can buy everything from a dog basket to a holiday.

TRACTORS: Who doesn't love a tractor? Moreton Show has them all - old and new, big and small.
