Countdown is on to Mitcheldean's summer party

Where: Mitcheldean, Forest of Dean

When: Saturday, June 16 (taster concert) and July 20-22

People in Mitcheldean are counting down the days to the town's summer festival!

The Mitcheldean Festival is a heady mixture of music festival, poetry festival and village fete, unique in the Forest of Dean, and will be happening again in Mitcheldean from July 20-22.

New high points for this year include:

  • Candlelit concert in the parish church on Friday, July 20
  • Storytelling as part of the poetry festival in the library on Saturday, July 21
  • Pillowell Silver Band at the fete on the playing field
  • A "Food Court" at the fete showing a great range of local produce
  • Prizes for the fete King and Queen (open to Year 6 residents)
  • Local legend Dick Brice headlining the concert in the parish church
  • Acoustic music session in the White Horse on the afternoon of Sunday, July 22

It's a free festival as ever, and regular activities will be happening again - the scarecrow competition run in conjunction with the Jolter Press and Townsend House, the dog show at the fete, the family ceilidh headlining junior performers in the afternoon, Morris dancers everywhere, the Sunday folk walk, and much more. Not to forget a beer and cider festival at the Brewery Tap!

The fun will be starting early with our taster concert in Mitcheldean's Brewery Tap tomorrow (Saturday, June 16), with great performers that get people dancing in the aisles!

This event is organised by a small group of volunteers, working with Mitcheldean Parish Council, the parish church, Mitcheldean community library, the folk club, Forest Gate Church, the WI and other local organisations.

This is Mitcheldean's fifth year of a combined fete, poetry and music festival, replacing an annual carnival which ended in 2009.
