Chapel Arts launches new Jazz concert series

Where: Chapel Arts, Knapp Road, Cheltenham

When: From Wednesday, November 21

Chapel Arts, one of Cheltenham's newest art and performance venues, is to host a brand new monthly series of Jazz concerts, featuring acclaimed Jazz artists from the UK and beyond.

Starting this month, the 'Jazz at the Chapel' programme will include performances by renowned US saxophonist Jean Toussaint, award-winning British saxophonist Simon Spillett, inventive jazz-classical violinist John Pearce and fluent improviser Martin Speake.

The artists will be presented and accompanied by local Jazz pianists Alex Steele and Tommy Scott.

Cheltenham's reputation as a magnet for British and International Jazz talent has grown over the last 60 years: from the 1960s when the classical music festival welcomed legends such as jazz pianist and composer Oscar Peterson, to the present time, when the town regularly entertains contemporary jazz, soul and blues greats such as Guy Barker, Jools Holland, Gregory Porter and Dionne Warwick at the annual Cheltenham Jazz Festival.

Chapel Arts owner Ian James said: "I'm thrilled that we have been able to attract such renowned and respected musicians to play in the intimate surroundings of Chapel Arts.

"Cheltenham is a wonderful place to live if you are a Jazz fan, and it is fantastic that we can now add something new and exciting to the local music scene."
