Carols on the hour and Christmas market at Cathedral

Where: Gloucester Cathedral

When: Saturday, December 8, and Saturday, December 15

Gloucester Cathedral's choirs are limbering up for a marathon carol-singing session on Saturday (December 8) when the hugely popular Carols on the Hour and Christmas Market returns.

Aimed specially at the busy Christmas shopper, Carols on the Hour are bite-sized bursts of festive praise, sung by the Cathedral Choirs, on the hour between 11am and 4pm:

11am: Cathedral Junior Choir

12 noon and 1pm: Cathedral Choir with boy and girl choristers

2pm and 3pm: Cathedral Youth Choir

4pm: Gloucester Choral Society

Running alongside the carol services will be the Cathedral's Christmas Market in the Cloisters and Chapter House open from 10am to 4.30pm with over 60 stalls selling locally made arts and crafts, Christmas decorations, luscious cakes and sweet treats, stained glass, jewellery, vintage collectables and much more.

There will be festive refreshments available in the Chapter House and make sure you head over to the Monk's Kitchen coffee shop where you can try out the new Christmas menu and delicious hot chocolate.

Bring your camera and take a selfie with Santa and Mrs Claus in the Chapter House between 10am-12 noon and 1pm-2pm and be sure to say hello to Oscar the Reindeer who will be waiting to greet you outside between 10.30am-3.30pm.

Don't forget to pop in to the Gift Shop while you are here to find that special and unique Christmas gift.

An absolute treasure trove of beautiful decorations and gifts, fantastic Christmas cards, delicious award-winning Christmas mead, and angels everywhere! It's a small shop offering a very warm welcome - just the place to start your Christmas shopping while helping with the upkeep of this beautiful Cathedral at the same time.

Due to the overwhelming popularity of Carols on the Hour, a second day of festive praise is being held on Saturday, December 15. These services will be sung by adult choirs. Kicking off proceedings at 11am and 12 noon will be The Caring Chorus Community Choir followed at 1pm and 2pm by The Stuart Singers and rounding the day off at 3pm and 4pm with The Saint Cecilia Singers.
