E123 Punchline Talks! with David Morton, Cicely Elliott-Berry and Linda Cohen

Each Friday, Punchline-Gloucester.com editor Mark Owen is joined by leading Gloucestershire business figures from a range of backgrounds to review Fridays national & regional newspapers, discuss what is happening in their own business sector and in their own individual businesses.

Finally, they round off by picking the stories that have caught their eye in this week's Punchline-Gloucester.com.

The Business Breakfast Briefer show is sponsored by Hazlewoods Accountants and Business Advisors.

This week's panel of experts were:

David Morton - headmaster of King's School Gloucester. David has been in post for just over six years and in that time, he has overseen significate investment and increase in staff and pupil numbers, a real success story.

The school currently has 750 pupils, 230 staff and a turnover in excess of £12million. We find out about the latest developments, the schools work in the community and what it means to the school if it was to add on the proposed VAT increase if the Labour party where to form the next government.

Cicely Elliott-Berry - co-founder and director of Siblings Distillery. The company was founded by two brothers and sisters and has steadily grown to be one of the most respected gin makers in Gloucestershire and the South West.

Business is a tough game and Cicely explains about the rising cost of staff, heating, glass, corks and now the governments increase in alcohol duty has put pressure on the business and how they are dealing with all the added pressures. Always optimistic, they are planning ahead and looking forward to their new venue - OUR HOME - that will be based at the soon to be opened the GLOUCESTER FOOD DOCK (fingers crossed - it has been a long time coming). So, we find out all about that.

Linda Cohen - co-founder of Lily Pad PR and a director of Read with Me - it is not a charity but runs as a social enterprise and therefore can work more as a business. Currently 1 in 5 children leave primary school unable to read properly and never catch-up.

Linda is determined to ensure that this changes and by all of us playing a small part - maybe offering as little as an hour a week reading with a child, can make a profound difference. At the moment they are helping 5,000 children across 36 schools with 200 volunteers, but they need more.

Could your business help by giving staff time off from work for an hour? Also covered with passion - was the migrant crisis and small boats traveling across the UK, space travel and so much more.
