Would you dare go on Gloucester’s giant zip wire?

Gloucester is to play host to one of the biggest temporary zip wires ever seen in a UK city centre, for just three days over the summer.

The zip wire will run about 1100 feet from TK Maxx on Northgate Street, along Southgate Street to Kimbrose Triangle outside Topoly's restaurant, just before the Kyneburgh Tower sculpture (aka 'The CD rack').

The ride promises real excitement for adrenaline junkies, thrill seekers and for those wanting a different view of the city. Riders will reach speeds of about 40 mph, soaring above the roof tops at heights of over 100 feet above the ground.

Gloucester will be only the third city in the country to host this event after London and Liverpool, where it has been a huge success. Organisers from Gloucester Business Improvement District (BID) are also expecting a lot of demand from people looking to do the ride as part of fundraising for charity.

The zip wire will be in the city centre from 29th June until 1st July, with strict limits on numbers. So anyone who wants to take part should book immediately!

Nick Brookes, chairman of Gloucester BID, said: "When we surveyed businesses in the BID area, one of the things they wanted more of was events that would deliver visitors to Gloucester and raise the profile of the city. Undoubtedly this giant zip wire is going to do both these things and will prove to be a really fantastic attraction for visitors and locals."

Jason Smith, CEO of Marketing Gloucester, which is supporting the BID with the organisation of the event, said: "Increasingly towns and cities are having to go the extra mile to give shoppers and visitors a reason to visit. Gloucester is being looked at nationally and regionally as a beacon of good practice in this regard and this giant zip wire is definitely showing that our small city can lead the way in generating an exciting city centre experience and give a boost to our local daytime and evening economy."

Tickets will be available from £29.95 on a first come first served basis and can be purchased via the Gloucester BID website www.gloucesterbid.uk  or Gloucester BID Facebook page www.facebook.com/GloucesterBID .
