Winners of Business Charity Awards announced

Jelf and Ageas, sponsors of the 2017 Local Business Charity Awards, have announced this year's winners.

An event was held at the National Star College to recognise the support given specifically by Gloucestershire businesses to the county's local charities.

The winners were:

Jelf Award for charities with annual turnover of more than £100,000: The Coventry Building Society nominated by Gloucestershire Deaf Association

Ageas Award for charities with annual turnover of less than £100,000: Skylight9 nominated by the Hollie Gazzard Trust

Individual Award winner: Helen Howe, Lumiere Restaurant, nominated by National Star.

Winners get £1,000 each, to be donated to the charity who nominated them. The winner of the individual award wins a weekend away to the value of £250.

Sponsors Jelf and Ageas announced a surprise award on the night, the Mayor's Award. Mayor Klara Sudbury was given £700 for a local charity of her choice who, because they are part of a national charity, or provide services outside of Gloucestershire, were not able to enter the awards themselves but still give tremendous support to people in Gloucestershire.

CEO of Jelf and Bluefin, founder of the awards, Phil Barton said: "Everyone at Jelf is so proud to have founded these awards; we could not be more delighted of the job they do, shining the light on the incredible lengths people and companies go to, to support their local Gloucestershire charities.'

Cathy Taylor, head of commercial underwriting and operations for Ageas, said: "As sponsors of the Local Business Charity Awards we have had the privilege of reading the nominations, detailing the fantastic charitable endeavours of many of our local businesses and individuals working within them. Tonight we have been regaled with further tales of selflessness and generosity that have been quite outstanding and of course, ultimately moving. We are delighted to be sponsors of these awards, alongside Jelf and send our warmest congratulations to all tonight's winners."

The judges for the 2017 awards were:

Matt Holmes, editor of the Gloucestershire Echo

Dame Janet Trotter DBE, the Lord Lieutenant of Gloucestershire

Dr Diane Savory OBE, Chair of GFirst LEP

Alex Chalk, MP for Cheltenham

Phil Barton, CEO Jelf and Bluefin (sponsor)

Cathy Taylor, Head of Commercial Underwriting and Operations of Ageas (sponsor)
