A main road into Gloucester is being resurfaced from 3rd April as part of the county council's £150 million commitment to Gloucestershire's highways.

Gloucestershire County Council is investing £400,000 into the A417 Over Causeway because the road has reached the end of its life and is in need of essential resurfacing works.

This is the first scheme of the council's new Tarmac contract and will see crews lay over 3,000 tonnes of material along the 900m stretch of road - between Westgate Bridge and Over roundabout.

To keep disruption to a minimum, the works will be carried out overnight. Beginning at 7pm on Tuesday 3rd April, crews will work overnight between 7pm and 7am until Tuesday 24th April (excluding weekends).

Due to the nature of the works and for the safety of road users and workforce, the road will be closed overnight between 7pm and 7am. Limited residential access will be maintained to Westend Parade, Westend Terrace and Alney Terrace throughout.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: "Improving our roads will help keep the county moving and the new Tarmac resurfacing contract is crucial to delivering on our £150 million investment. I'd like to reassure residents that by carrying out this work overnight, we'll minimise the disruption as much as possible."

Diversion:

A signed diversion suitable for heavy vehicles will be in place during the works.

From Gloucester - Via St Oswolds Road, left at the roundabout onto A38 Tewkesbury Road follow and then left onto the A40 towards Over roundabout.

From Over - Via A40 towards Longford, right at the roundabout towards Gloucester, Right at the roundabout onto St Oswolds Road and follow through to Westgate Street.
