Warning: Night time road closures as improvements begin

One of the main routes through the county will be closed overnight for several days while roadworks take place.

The A48 at Westbury-on-Severn is being upgraded as part of the county council's £150 million investment into Gloucestershire's roads.

The A48 section between Jordan Hill and Wintles Hill will receive vital resurfacing and drainage maintenance from June 11.

Crews will complete resurfacing along 566m of the road with 540 tonnes of material. Alongside resurfacing works crews will also deliver vital drainage repair work to alleviate flooding issues in the area.

To keep disruption to a minimum, work will take place over night between 7pm and 7am from 12thJune to 15th June when a full road closure will be in place.

Essential drainage works will be undertaken on 11th and 12th June during off-peak hours (9:30am to 3:30pm) on the A48, Jordan Hill. These drainage works will not require a road closure and will be managed under rolling traffic lights.

After resurfacing works finish, drainage crews will return to Jordan Hill between 18th and 29th June to finish the repairs in the verge. These final works will be delivered during off-peak hours between 9:30am and 3:30pm (weekdays only).

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: "This important scheme highlights our ongoing commitment to keep the county moving. These essential improvements will improve the road and future proof the area from flooding issues. I'd like to reassure residents that we will keep disruption to a minimum and thank them for bearing with us."

Letters have been sent to residents along the route with details about local access arrangements.

What's the diversion route?

Diversion is via the A48 and A4151 pass Cinderford. In Nailbridge, at the junction with the A4136, turn right and follow the road via Plump Hill, Mitcheldean and Longhope to the junction with the A40. Turn right and take the A40 towards Gloucester. At the Higham Court roundabout, take the second exit and follow the A48 to Westbury-on-Severn. Diversion is the same in reverse.
