Warning: Major road upgrade on the way for Birdlip

A popular route into Birdlip is being resurfaced from 30th August as part of Gloucestershire County Council's £150m investment into the county's roads.

The B4070 from the A417 direction is a main route into Birdlip village. The road has reached the end of its life expectancy and requires resurfacing. A road closure will be in place from Thursday 30th August to Wednesday 5th September between 9:30am and 3:30pm (excluding weekend).

To help minimise disruption, the road will still be open during peak times. Your highways crews will complete essential resurfacing along the 3,975 square metres stretch of road with 456 tonnes of material.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: "We know that investment and improvements on our roads is a priority for the people of Gloucestershire. This resurfacing work is part of a wider plan to keep the county moving with £150 million worth of investment into Gloucestershire's roads."

Cllr Nigel Robbins, county councillor for Cirencester Beeches, said: "This is an important route into Birdlip village, so I'm delighted that the road will benefit from a complete refresh. I would like to thank road users for their patience while this vital work is carried out."

What's the diversion route?

From the northern extent head north on the A417 and then head west signposted M5 at the Air Balloon roundabout. At the junction with the A46 head south towards Stroud. Follow through Painswick and Pitchcombe to Stroud. Remain on the A46 until a second roundabout in Stroud and take a left onto the B4070 and head north back to Birdlip and the southern extent of the closure. The diversion is the same in reverse.
