Warning following thefts of trailers across Gloucestershire this week

Police are warning trailer owners to be vigilant following a number of thefts this week.

At least seven thefts have been reported since Monday (August 8), which took place in the Shuthonger and Forthampton areas of Tewkesbury as well as Sandhurst, Southam and Corse.

The trailers were stolen overnight or during the early hours of the morning and a number of goods such as power tools or work equipment were also taken.

The targeted trailers were either drop sided, double axle or for Williams tipping trailers.

Burglars are often opportunistic. However, there are a number of measures that you can follow to help prevent your trailer from being targeted, these include:

• Parking the trailer in a secure location and using hitch locks or wheel clamps where possible.

• If practicable, block the trailer in with other vehicles/heavy materials.

• Putting up CCTV signs as a deterrent.

• Installing motion sensor lights in close proximity to CCTV cameras to scare potential offenders away

Additional advice on keeping vehicles safe can be found here.

Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity or is targeted by a trailer theft is asked to call 101 or 999 if a crime is in progress.

Alternatively, information can be submitted via Gloucestershire Constabulary's online form.
