VIDEO: Is this the woman in a devil mask who is responsible for Forest of Dean acid attacks?

More CCTV footage has emerged today of the sinister acid attacks carried out by a masked woman in a quiet Forest of Dean village.

One piece of CCTV shows a car drawing up outside a remote house and then driving away again moments before a masked figure appears in view, climbs over the gate and then pours liquid over the roof of a parked Landrover Freelander.

Although the attacker, thought to be female, is not shown getting out of the estate car the inference is that she had been travelling in it and therefore there are at least two people involved in the acid attacks.

Five cars and a motorhome have been so badly damaged with acid in St Briavels in the last 18 months that they have had to be written off.

One villager who did not want to be named said today that a local woman had been questioned about the attack after a sinister devil mask and wig were found near her home. She has a car similar to the one shown in the night time CCTV.

But the woman denied responsibility and said although she did own the mask and wig she had thrown them away after a Hallowe'en party.

The most recent victim of the attacks was semi-retired music teacher John Hurley, 73, whose Renault Clio was written off after acid was splashed on it last month.

A concerned sympathetic neighbour highlighted the seriousness of the attacks, saying: "If he'd gone outside he could've had acid thrown on him - which could lead to life imprisonment under new sentencing guidelines.

"I doubt the attackers have even considered the devastating affect their prosecution will have on any family they have, such as children, as they are identified for these shameful criminal acts "

Describing the incident as a "cowardly, disgusting attack on an innocent and decent elderly resident," another neighbour said that the perpetrators 'need to be aware of the seriousness of their crimes,' and that they had heard that information was already coming in on potential suspects involved.

A new law, which came into force in November, means members of the public possessing acid without a licence could face a two-year prison sentence and an unlimited fine.

The villager added: "All of the victims are upstanding, highly respected senior citizens who work tirelessly for the community. Local people are particularly outraged and disturbed by these moronic attacks on good, law abiding citizens and are keen to catch them."

The villager who released the CCTV footage of the car drawing up outside a house and a woman climbing over the gate said "Although it is dark and the car's headlights make it more difficult to see, the car appears to be a silver/grey VW Passat estate with its roof bars up.

"A bald, thick-set male sits in the car as the female climbs over the gates and throws a gallon container of acid over a black Land Rover Freelander.

"The acid narrowly missed a cat which was cowering behind the vehicle at the time. Evidence gathered at the scene is with the Police Scenes of Crime Investigators.

"It doesn't bear thinking about the agonising death the cat could have suffered had it been caught by the acid. The perpetrators are reckless hooligans who deserve everything they get when the Police finally catch them.

"What happened to Mr Hurley is so shocking because he is the most inoffensive, quiet living, kind and considerate person who apart from teaching music dedicates his life entirely to voluntary work to benefit the parish, such as litter picking, public path clearing, being a parish councillor, caretaking the village hall.

"He also runs a free 'walking for health' guided walk every week. It is therefore particularly upsetting to him and parishioners that he has suffered this disgusting and cowardly attack."

The villager whose CCTV showed the car pulling up and the attacker climbing over the gate said "The male driver was a stout bald middle aged man wearing glasses, accompanied by a tallish middle aged woman who was wearing a devils mask, black curly wig, a poncho and boots with a distinctive thick white sole - and she proceeded to throw acid all over our black Freelander.

"A wig and devil's mask matching the security footage were later recovered along with an acid bottle cap, which were handed to the Police SOC investigators".

Other victims who had a luxury motorhome and a VW car damaged in a double acid attack, also caught it on CCTV and said: "The attacker on our security footage appears to be a younger, medium height slight male, who was wearing a black hanky around his face and a hoodie, with white flash markings on his trousers.

"A different rubber mask was discarded nearby and it would appear these are copy-cat attacks carried out by a small group of very sick people.

"My wife or I could have easily disturbed them during the attack and been seriously injured or maimed for life".

In the wake of the attacks Gloucestershire Police are running a fortnightly 'Police Information Point' at St. Briavels Assembly Rooms commencing between 2pm and 4.30pm. One was held yesterday and the next will be on April 30.

Information can be given at any Police station or by calling the 101 service, emailing 101@gloucestershire.police.uk, or anonymously to crimestoppers on 0800 555111, all contact to quote crime reference number: 9291/19.

A substantial reward, in excess of £2,000 has been donated by villagers for information leading directly to the successful conviction of the attackers.

Victim Mr Hurley said yesterday "It's devastating to think that there are people in our community who could do such a thing."

He said his car was smeared with gel-like acid, which stripped the paint on virtually every panel down to the bare metal.

"It was so strong it started to melt the plastic wipers and headlamps as well as the plastic spatula being used to scrape it off.

"Luckily I was aware of the previous attacks so as soon as I saw it it I knew straight away what it was," said Mr Hurley.

"If I hadn't known and had touched it, it would have been disastrous. I teach music and the acid would have damaged my fingers."
