Improving university wins encouraging marks from students

The University of Gloucestershire is celebrating another rise in the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey rankings.

The university has gone up by eight places to 54th out of 122 UK universities this year.

The survey asks students a wide range of questions about different aspects of their experience.

The university is placed equal fourth in the UK on the specific question about "good personal relationships with teaching staff", 13th for "helpful/interested staff", equal 17th for "personal requirements catered for", and equal 21st for "high quality staff/lectures".

Now in its 12th year, the Student Experience Survey looks at the broader definition of the student experience, created by students themselves, that includes those aspects of university life that matter most to them.

This latest rise adds to a number of recent achievements that recognize the emphasis the university places on the quality of teaching and learning and the wider experience of students.

The university ranks 27th out of 123 for teaching quality and 40th out of 123 for overall student experience in the current Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide.

The university has been shortlisted for the "student support", "courses and lecturers", and "postgraduate" categories in the Whatuni Student Choice Awards 2017, which will be announced next month.

University of Gloucestershire vice-chancellor Stephen Marston said: "This is good news for the University of Gloucestershire and for both our current and future students.

"As we set out in our recently-launched strategic plan, the university is committed above all to providing high quality teaching and learning, and supporting all our students to achieve their full potential, within a community which values them as individuals.

"These new survey results, based directly on the opinions of students, suggest that we continue to make progress towards those ambitions."
