Trawl through planning applications hooks new fishing businesses

Anglers in Gloucestershire could soon have two new venues at which to test their skills.
An application has been received by Gloucestershire City Council for a new fishing lake just south of Gloucester city centre beside the River Severn.
And in a separate development it appears a so-far secret new venture between a land-owner and Gloucester Angling Club could also be about to go live.
Evans Jones, Cheltenham, is the firm which has submitted plans for Elmore Lakes for the company called Catch A Smile.
According to its documents the plans are for "the formation of a new lakes, a mobile home, and ancillary services including WC's and associated car parking. For the creation of a Leisure Fishing business."
The application predicts two jobs will be created as a result, should permission be granted and work go ahead.
Opening hours for the business would be between 9.30am from Monday to Saturday.
It was news welcomed - in principal - by the city's angling club, which revealed it has plans afoot of its own.
"It is really interesting, but it all depends on how they are planning to use the site. Gloucester is really well placed for what are referred to as commercials offering fishing for carp. It is currently the most popular sector of the sport," said a spokesman for the club.
"There are now over a dozen really good venues here already."
However, the club has been working with a landowner and together they have created a pond stocked with Crucian carp, which do not grow as big as the carp generally favoured by sport fishermen.
"This project is about encouraging the next generation to take up fishing and about the environment and conservation," said the spokesman.
