Travel for free in to Cheltenham to celebrate World Environment Day

Travel into Cheltenham on World Environment Day will be free thanks to Stagecoach West.

The bus company is offering free travel for the day on its 93 service, which runs from Arle Court into Cheltenham, on Wedensday, June 5.

The park and ride service runs up to every 12 minutes from the site near the A40 and junction 11 of the M5.

Those who take advantage of the offer between 7am and 11am will also be able to enjoy a free hot drink - and to help publicise the environmental benefits of bus travel, Stagecoach West has also released a short video.

"World Environment Day is a great opportunity to start thinking about a more eco-friendly lifestyle, which is why we're offering customers the chance to travel for free for the day," said Rupert Cox, managing director of Gloucester-based Stagecoach West.

"We have recently freed up more parking spaces at Arle Court Park & Ride to cater for those wanting to leave their cars behind and travel into the town by bus, as well as investing in new fuel efficient buses - which feature free Wi-Fi and USB charging.

"With parking charges continuing to rise in Cheltenham, the park and ride service offers a convenient and cost-effective alternative to driving into the centre. It also helps to ease the congestion on our busy urban roads."

You can find out more about the offer on Stagecoach's website: https://www.stagecoachbus.com/promos-and-offers/west/arle-court-park-and-ride

Stagecoach West recently made a £1 million investment in the park and ride buses, which feature free Wi-Fi and USB charging points, extra leg room seats and cleaner, quieter engines.

Each £250,000 Gold bus engine adheres to the highest European emissions standards targets.

Compared to 1993 Stagecoach West's buses produce 70 per cent less CO2, 88 per cent less carbon emissions, 95 per cent less NOX (pollution) and 99.95 less particulate matters.

The business calculates one full bus takes the equivalent to 89 cars off the road, with its newest buses nine times better for the environment than the typical car.
