Top Five (alternative) things to do in Gloucestershire this Easter weekend

Stuck for something to do this Bank Holiday weekend?

Tired of the suggestions that include the glorious Gloucestershire sights?

Then why not take on the Punchline alternative - tongue firmly in cheek -  guide to what to do over the Easter weekend.

Five things that will have you gagging to get back to work on Tuesday, for a bit of peace and quiet.

1. Take in the majestic views of the Incinerator.

No matter where you are in the county, from Crickley Hill to Rodborough Common, it will loom into view.

The sun will glint off the white walls - although not from the  middle green section as that is invisible, obviously.

The geniuses in the Punchline office have wondered about producing a calendar featuring 12 different views of the fiery edifice.

If you're out an about on a Bank Holiday drive and catch it in its glory, send us the pictures. Time will run out before the trees that will mask it from view grow to achieve their purpose.

2. Take a drive through Cheltenham Town centre

Pop past the Town Hall - what are those cars doing going the wrong way down a one-way street?!

Hang a right down past the Royal Well Bus Station - itself a bastion of architectural excellence and then... Ah.

Can I go left down Clarence Street? No. Can I head off down Boots Corner like I always used to? No.

Am I stuck in Cheltenham forever, with no way of getting out? Yes.

Best go to the pub, then.

3. Go for a cruise down the River Severn from Gloucester Docks

Messing about on the river, what better way to spend a sun-drenched Bank Holiday.

You can set off from beneath the majestic Victorian warehouses on the Docks, with envious landlubbers looking on.

Pour yourself a gin and tonic - you're in a gin palace after all - and sit back for a relaxing day on the water...

But you'll stop after about 50 yards, because the lock is STILL out of action.

The authorities say it will be open by the end of the month, apparently.

4. Sit in a queue at Gloucester Tip

The other half is banging on about doing some much-needed DIY as you've got four or five days out of

the office.

It's not enough that you spend all weekend with a hammer or wallpaper brush in your hand, you then have to take in the sights of Gloucester Tip.

And for special occasions they ensure that you can take in the majesty of Spinnaker Road, by ensuring there's a massive traffic jam.

Sitting in your car, breathing in noxious fumes from other vehicles while listening to the majestic birdsong of fighting urban gulls - ah, the relaxation.

5. Go for an evening picnic at Birdlip Hill.

As the sun sets over the distant Malverns, you can nibble on a Scotch egg and marvel at the twinkling

lights in the valley below as the light begins to fade.

Look south and you may just see the sunlight glint off the incinerator - although not from the invisible middle section of course - What a lovely scene.

That said, up there. At that time of night, it's probably best to keep inside the vehicle. Probably best also to keep the windows up and lock the doors, if you know what I mean...

Maybe it's just best to go home and watch endless repeats of Game of Thrones, it's probably safer.
