Suitcase brand’s future is secure

Luggage brand Antler's future on the UK retail scene is safe, after administrators found a buyer to take over its online operations.

But sadly it is too late for the brand's 18 stores, including the one in Gloucester Quays. Antler went into administration in May, leading to permanent store closures and 164 job cuts, as reported by Retail Gazette.

The brand, which was established over 100 years ago, also sold wholesale to large chains, including John Lewis and Selfridges. Its sales were solid before Covid-19, but were hit hard by both lockdown and global travel restrictions.

The joint administrators continued to trade the business online. The business, including a small number of staff, has now been transferred to ATR.

The administrators believe ATR is in a strong position to take Antler forward, now that travel restrictions around the world are easing.
