Stonehouse firm named in Top 100 Most Loved Workplaces

Gloucestershire defence firm Allan Webb has been named in the UK's Top 100 Most Loved Workplaces by Newsweek.

The company, based in Bonds Mill Estate in Stonehouse, was ranked 92nd on the list which recognises employee sentiment and satisfaction.

Founded in 1960, it began as a contractor for the MOD and has grown to assist the MOD and wider defence community with their supportability across land and naval platforms.

It works with customers to reduce whole life cost, increase operational availability and ensure seamless support solutions are delivered across their respective supply chains.

The rankings were created through a collaboration with the Best Practice Institute (BPI). It surveyed more than 1.4 million employees from businesses with workforces varying in size from 50 to more than 10,000.

The list recognises companies that put respect, caring, and appreciation for their employees at the centre of their business model, earning their loyalty and respect.

Allan Webb has more than 200 employees and calls them its "greatest asset" with their wellbeing "vitally important" to the success of the company.

It offers company suggestion boxes, monthly manager meetings, biannual MD briefings and annual professional development reviews to help staff flourish

Rory Lipington, managing director for Allan Webb, said: "This is an exciting moment. As a company, we've always prided ourselves on creating a positive and engaging working environment to maximise the potential of our amazing employees.

"Our success metrics have always been measured in employee feedback, which is captured in our annual surveys and has seen positive results around 80 percent overall satisfaction over the past five years.

"It feels great for these efforts to be formally recognised alongside other great companies within the UK."

The five critical measures used to rank companies were: how positive workers feel about their future at the company, career achievement, how much employer values align with employee values, respect at all levels, and the level of collaboration at the fir.

Areas such as inclusion, diversity, equity and belonging, and company response and adaptability to the COVID-19 pandemic, such as return-to-office rules, were also analysed.

Nancy Cooper, global editor in chief for Newsweek, said: "As a result of 'The Great Resignation,' more companies recognize the importance of focusing on employee satisfaction to not only attract but retain top talent.

"The businesses on this year's list clearly demonstrated that commitment."
