Plans for entertainment and recreation area are up for debate

An amphitheatre and skateboard park could be built in the Forest of Dean.

The plans for the development at Bells Field in Coleford, which also include proposals for a wildlife garden, multi-use games area and car parking, will be discussed by Forest of Dean District Council members next Tuesday.

The plans have been recommended for approval by planning officers.

In the past, Bells Field was used for agricultural purposes and more recently as a rugby field for Bells Grammar School and an area to practice golf for Forest of Dean Golf Club.

The site, currently managed for informal recreation and dog walking, was bought by Coleford Town Council in 2014 after being identified as a suitable location for providing facilities for young people.

According to a design and access statement prepared for Coleford Town Council, the design proposals have been developed through "extensive public consultation with the aim to provide new leisure and recreation opportunities for the whole community".

It continues: "The site has been assessed to establish appropriate facilities that could be provided for the people living in Coleford and the surrounding area.

"The objective has been to fill gaps in the current provision to meet the needs of the town whilst also enhancing the natural environment and highlighting the heritage of the area."
