New MD for fast-growing Cheltenham firm

A new managing director has been named for one of the county's best-known heating, plumbing and electrical specialists.

Cheltenham-based Shackleton, Wintle & Lane (SW&L) said the appointment comes as it aims for further growth.

Simon Marklew is the new man at the helm of the 40-year-old award-winning business after a decade with Warwick-based Wolseley UK, where he most recently held the position of national sales director.

Mr Marklew was responsible for driving sales of all plumbing and heating materials across new build, commercial, social housing and corporate sectors.

"Over the past four decades, SW&L has built a reputation for quality workmanship in plumbing and heating and after adding electrical services to its offering 18 months ago, it now offers the complete M&E package.

"This is a huge benefit to all customers from private high-end bespoke properties and high-volume new build developments, to social housing providers and those managing commercial building facilities," said Mr Marklew.

Previously, he had worked in national account manager roles at Jewson and Wavin, where he first became involved in the plumbing and heating industry.

Mr Marklew will work closely with current managing director John Rogers during a transfer period of three months (from March 1) before he moves to the position of chief executive.

Mr Rogers said: "It's testament to the calibre of the team and the business we've built together, that we can attract someone of Simon's experience. We're excited about the potential he brings and confident his addition to the company will drive further success."
