Shopping under the influence costs Brits dearly

Nearly half of adults who drink have made drunk purchases, with an average spend of nearly £300.

A survey of 2,000 people by Finder found the average drunk shopping spree amounted to £291.07, equating to approximately £4.46 billion blown on drunk shopping nationally.

Almost one in four (22.87 per cent) drinkers admit to drunk purchasing food whilst 13.8 per cent admit to buying shoes, clothes and accessories.

Men splash more cash than women, blowing on average £364.72, compared to £213.41 for women.

Millennials are the most likely to be making drunk purchases with almost three in five (59.29 per cent) drinkers admitting to this boozy indulgence, compared to 51.7 per cent of Generation Xers and 31.36 per cent of baby boomers

But Gen X drunk shoppers indulge on their purchases by spending more money than their younger counterparts. The average total cost of Gen X's drunk purchases is estimated to be £374.45, whilst millennials average a more modest £182.39.

Punchline says: "Most of us will admit to a drunk purchase or two. But it's not just drunk shopping, how many of us can admit to boredom shopping? With the threat of more snow this weekend, there will be plenty of us stuck inside buying things we don't need out of boredom."
