VIDEO: Shoppers seen flying Gloucester city centre
By Andrew Merrell | 29th June 2018
If you looked up above the shops of Gloucester and think you could see shoppers whizzing through the air above Southgate Street rest assured you have not gone mad.
The city centre is playing host to one of the biggest temporary zip wires ever seen in a UK city centre, for just three days over the summer.
The zip wire run about 1,100 feet from TK Maxx on Northgate Street, along Southgate Street to a spot just outside Barclays Bank.
And residents and thrill-seekers have been taking advantage of the chance to bypass the crowds of shoppers and get a different view of the city.
Usually an arrestable offence - travelling over the cross at 40mph - wire riders have been doing just that, but 100 feet in the air.
Gloucester is only the third city in the country to host such as event after London and Liverpool, where it has apparently been a huge success.
Organisers from Gloucester Business Improvement District (BID) are also hoping there will be a lot of demand from people looking to do the ride as part of fundraising for charity.
The zip wire will be in the city centre from 29th June until 1st July, with strict limits on numbers. So anyone who wants to take part should book immediately!
Watch as Gloucester Rugby star, Charlie Sharples is one of the first to take on the zip wire:

Tickets will be available from £29.95 on a first come first served basis and can be purchased via the Gloucester BID website www.gloucesterbid.uk or Gloucester BID Facebook page www.facebook.com/GloucesterBID .
