Ride for Ryder raises tens of thousands for local hospice

More than 400 cyclists from across the country saddled up for the Ride for Ryder challenge last weekend.

The challenge, now in its 34th year, has already raised more than £32,000 for the Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice in Cheltenham and that total is set to climb as more donations come in.

The 430 cyclists travelled through a scenic Cotswolds route of their choice - with distances ranging from 40km to 130km.

Sponsored by Allstone Speedy Skips, Ride for Ryder was completed by people of all abilities and fitness levels, with the cyclists covering a total of 33,070km through the Cotswolds.

Along the way, riders were treated to spectacular countryside views as they cycled through villages including Broadway, Chipping Campden and Bredon.

The funds raised from the event will go a long way in helping Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice continue to be there for local families when it matters most.

Matt Reay, community fundraising manager at the hospice, said: "The fundraising total is expected to climb much higher, as cyclists receive their final donations from friends, family and supporters. If you know someone who took on Ride for Ryder this year, there is still time to sponsor them and help us achieve as high a fundraising total as we can.

"A huge thank you to everyone involved in helping to make the event happen, including our long-term charity partners, Allstone Speedy Skips, our venue hosts Dean Close Venues and Creed Foodservice, who again supplied all the water, bananas and snacks for the riders and not forgetting our over 100 fantastic volunteers."

The 35th Ride for Ryder will take place on Sunday July 9, 2023 - with sign-up details to be announced at the start of the year.
