Reality TV show to team up with eBay

It's known as much for its outfits as its relationships, but now Love Island is to take a new approach to fashion.

Contestants on the ITV2 reality show, which is back on air next month, are often seen wearing several outfits per episode. But this season some of those outfits will be secondhand, as reported by The Guardian.

For the last three years, Love Island, has been sponsored by fast fashion company, I Saw it First. But it has been criticised for encouraging an unsustainable attitude to fashion.

This year, the show will be sponsored by eBay. Contestants will be provided with a wardrobe of pre-loved clothing and accessories to choose from, in addition to their own clothes.

Love Island is a huge influence on the fashion buying habits of its three million viewers, with some outfits worn by contestants selling out within hours of appearing on screen.

Now it's hoped the partnership with eBay will help with a shift in attitude towards secondhand clothing and encourage more people to consider buying pre-owned clothes.

This year the Love Island app will feature eBay finds to encourage viewers to 'shop the show'.

Currently 18-34 year olds (the show's demographic) have an average of 22 per cent secondhand clothing in their wardrobes, compared to 12 per cent for the over-55s.
