Protestors storm council meeting

Protestors brought today's full council meeting at Shire Hall to a standstill before budget discussions could even begin.
Local journalists Hayley Mortimer and Leigh Boobyer tweeted from the meeting that it had been taken over by a campaign group called Extinction Rebellion. The group accused the county council of being guilty of 'criminal negligence' and called on council members to acknowledge climate change in its budget.
The police were called to Shire Hall, as protestors superglued themselves to seats in the public gallery. Other protestors sat in the chairman and chief executive's seats at the front of the council chamber.
Journalists were told that the meeting was no longer public and were marched out of the building.
Police used a bottle of Coca Cola to remove the protestors from the furniture.
Extinction Rebellion left Shire Hall at around 12pm today.
In its Twitter bio, Extinction Rebellion describes itself as taking 'Non-violent direct action and civil disobedience for action on the climate and ecological crisis'. It is planning to disrupt London Fashion Week later this week.
