Project Pilgrim works near completion
20th November 2017
Next month will see the completion of major improvements to the grounds of Gloucester Cathedral.
The final sections of engraved stone are being laid and hundreds of plants planted in time for its opening to the public.
The exterior works have been developed to provide both hard and soft landscaping for a huge range of events and activities. The main contractors are working extraordinarily hard to make sure everything is finished in time for advent, which starts on 3rd December.
Previous work undertaken in the early stages of the Project Pilgrim includes over 100 solar panels installed onto the Nave roof, as well as restoration work within the Lady Chapel.
Funded partly by the Heritage Lottery Fund as well as other trusts and individuals, the project is a 10 year programme of regeneration and public engagement. The vision is to connect and re-engage with the city's people and restore key parts of the iconic building.
It will provide new opportunities for everyone, regardless of their faith or background, to interact with the cathedral in a new way.
Punchline took a look around the new cathedral green and was extremely impressed with the results and the connection to Gloucester's wonderful history. The project will bring a new lease of life to the cathedral grounds.
