Prima Dental launches joint venture company in China

Leading Gloucester-based dental manufacturer Prima Dental has joined forces with a renowned dental manufacturer in south China to set up a new company and brand, Wave Dental.

Jointly owned by Prima Dental and Sinyuan Bur & Tool Co (SBT), Wave Dental will be based in state-of-the-art production facilities at Ningbo, south of Shanghai.

The new company will manufacture and supply quality dental drills to markets across China, the Asian market and beyond.

Wave Dental's brand and product range were recently unveiled by Prima and SBT at a leading dental exhibition in Shanghai, and have already enjoyed excellent feedback from new customers and the wider dental trade. An official opening ceremony at the new company's Ningbo production facilities took place in November, attended by teams from Prima Dental and SBT.

Prima Dental's managing director Richard Muller commented: "We are delighted to have forged this new international partnership with SBT, a well-respected dental manufacturer in China. Through this new joint venture we will be supplying quality dental products to growing markets in China, Asia and beyond.

"We have found that there is a significant opportunity to invest in quality dental products in these markets. Our joint venture enables us to supply quality product at a price point that would have historically only given clinicians access to inferior quality products. In essence it means that more dental patients around the world will have access to the best dental tools, thereby ensuring better dental care, health and wellbeing for more people. This new joint venture in China adds to Prima's existing overseas investments in Brazil and India which are growing our worldwide markets."

With a fast-expanding team of 215 at its base at Waterwells Business Park, Quedgeley, Gloucester base, Prima Dental is recognised as a world leader in the manufacture and export of high-quality dental instruments for healthcare and cosmetic markets around the world. Supplying 90 countries, it is the world's fastest-growing producer of dental burs and has won numerous awards for its growth and success, including a coveted Queen's Award for Enterprise.

Prima has recently invested £3million in a new factory and Research and Innovation Centre adjacent to its existing production facility in Waterwells Business Park. Construction of its new site is nearing completion.

Richard Muller concluded: "This joint venture with our colleagues at SBT is an exciting development and will considerably increase our overseas trade. It will be in addition to our continued expansion in UK production which will be boosted by the opening of our new £3m facility here in Quedgeley."
