Poundland set to open convenience stores
By Sarah Wood | 21st May 2021
Discount retailer Poundland will open two new stores this weekend, in a pilot of its new convenience store format.
The Poundland Local stores will both open in Yorkshire, in former Fultons Foods stores that became part of Poundland last year, as reported by Retail Gazette.
The new stores will be smaller than regular Poundland stores, employ a total of 24 people and trade for slightly longer hours, from 7am to 9pm.
The compact design of Poundland Local means stores are able to open in small towns, residential and urban neighbourhoods which don't currently have a Poundland.
Unusually for a convenience format, the prices will be identical to those of larger Poundland stores.
In addition to Poundland's core ranges, including household products, health and beauty, stationery and homeware, the stores will stock additional ranges customers expect from a convenience store, including fresh fruit and vegetables, chilled and frozen food, and an extended range of beer, wines and spirits.
