Positive Covid tests knock out Cirencester export conference
By Richard Wright | 30th March 2022
A conference in Cirencester on export opportunities for food producers has had to be cancelled because two of the speakers tested positive for Covid.
The event scheduled for today at the Royal Agricultural University was organised in partnership with the NFU, FSB, Sabre (UK) and Gen-A Consultancy.
Organisers say they had 'no option but to cancel', with two of four guest speakers testing positive.
Sam Holliday, FSB development manager for Gloucestershire, and one of the joint organisers of the event, said: "What I think it does highlight is that business and business meetings are still being disrupted by Covid because even though the rules have changed and self-isolation is not mandatory many people are still making their own minds up about whether to proceed or not with meetings when the virus hits.
"With all the understandable attention on Ukraine, Covid is obviously not foremost in everybody's minds, but I think we all know from both our personal and business lives that the issue has certainly not disappeared and its effects are still being felt."
Hosts, the Farm491 innovation centre for farming and food was exploring export markets outside the EU for the food and drink sector, and aimed at farmers, producers and distributors.
A date has yet to be arranged for the rescheduled meeting.
