15th September 2017
Police investigating a report of a woman being raped in Wotton-under-Edge last week are appealing for witnesses.
The incident is believed to have happened in a wooded area near to the sports and social club in Synwell Lane at about 11pm on Saturday 9 September.
The 33-year-old victim, who had been attending a charity event at the club, did not know the offender and no description is available.
DI Dave Shore-Nye, of the Rape and Serious Sexual Offences team at Gloucestershire Constabulary, said: "We are treating this incident very seriously and urge anyone with information to come forward.
"We are appealing for witnesses who may recall seeing a female in distress. We would particularly like to speak to a female who assisted the female and stayed with her until the police arrived. They may have information which can help us with our enquiries.
"We understand an incident of this nature can cause concern within the local community, but we wish to reassure members of the public that we are doing all we can to trace the person responsible."
Anyone with information should contact Gloucestershire Constabulary by calling 101 or emailing 101@gloucestershire.police.uk and quoting incident 7 of 10 September.
