Appeal following fatal collision

Police are appealing for witnesses after two people died in a road accident in the Cotswolds yesterday evening (Tuesday, January 1).

At approximately 5.50pm emergency services responded to a report that a green Vauxhall Astra had left the B4081 road at Conduit Hill, Chipping Campden, and collided with "a solid structure close to the top of the hill".

Police attended along with the fire and rescue service and ambulance service, but the two occupants of the vehicle died at the scene.

"They are thought to be local to the area and although formal identification has not yet taken place, they are believed to be a man aged in his 80s and a woman aged in her 90s who are siblings. Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by a family liaison officer," said a statement from Gloucestershire Constabulary.

No other vehicles are believed to have been involved and the road remained closed until the early hours of this morning (Wednesday) while an investigation took place.

Officers would like to thank the members of the public who stopped and assisted and would like to speak to anyone who might have witnessed what happened, but has not yet spoken to police.

Any witnesses are asked to submit information online through this form or by calling police on 101 and quoting incident 450 of January 1.
