Planners set to discuss major new homes plan

Plans for new homes and student accommodation in Gloucester will come before city councillors for a decision tomorrow.

Allstone, the aggregates suppliers and waste management company , want to relocate from their existing base in Myers Road, Gloucester and redevelop the brownfield site with 200 residential dwellings and 200 bedroom student accommodation.

The company, who own the site, have had the masterplan drawn up following extensive investigations by expert consultants into the environmental, highways, drainage and ecological needs of the area.

The site is part of the wider Railway Corridor area of Gloucester with regeneration already taking place in the so-called Railway Triangle with the development of 22 business units near the Morrisons store.

Relocation will allow Allstone to continue to grow and create more employment in the area. The company has previously stated it wants to remain in the Gloucester area where it has its heritage as a successful family business.

Tomorrow Gloucester City Council Planning committee will be recommended by officers to approve the scheme subject to conditions.

These include gaining more information on the impact of loss of Irish club car park spaces, the proposed student car movements and parking and vehicle routing in the traffic assessment and the signing of an agreement to secure the delivery of public open space
