Overnight closure of major county road for several weeks

A major road will be closed overnight for several weeks as essential electrical work is carried out on a roundabout near Tewkesbury.

Essential electrical work will be carried out to improve safety on the A46 Teddington Hands roundabout from Monday, 20 February.

National Highways will replace the cabling for the street lights on the roundabout during a series of overnight closures from 9pm to 6am, Monday to Friday between February 20 and Thursday, April 6.

National Highways project manager Russ Davis said: "Replacing the cables will reduce the likelihood of power outages or other electrical faults and keep the lights operational and dependable for those using the Teddington Hands Roundabout

"We'll be working overnight when traffic flows are lightest to minimise disruption, but still advise road users to allow extra time for their journeys."

The work will be carried out in two phases.

The first, from Monday, 20 February, to Monday, 20 March, requires a full closure of the A46 between Aston Cross and Teddington Hands, including three-way temporary traffic lights on the A345 and B4077.

A46 southbound traffic will be diverted to the M5 Junction 6 (Warndon) from the Twyford roundabout north of Evesham.

A46 northbound traffic will be diverted from M5 Junction 9 (Ashchurch) to Junction 6 and will pick up the A46 at Twyford roundabout north of Evesham.

However, the M5 southbound will be closed overnight from junction 5 (Rashwood) to junction 7 from Monday, 6 March to Friday, 10 March. During that time traffic will be diverted along the A38 from junction 5 and then have to follow a short diversion along the A4440 link road between junctions 7 (Whittington) and 6.

Phase two, from Tuesday, 21 March to Thursday, 6 April involves four-way temporary traffic lights on Teddington Hands roundabout, a full closure of Crashmore Lane and two-way temporary traffic lights on the A435. A local diversion will be fully signed.

Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journeys until the work is complete.
