New takeover bid for Currys?

A Chinese ecommerce company is reported to be considering a takeover of Currys.

The electrical giant, which has stores in Cheltenham and Gloucester, had previously turned down a £700m bid from US investment firm, Elliott, as reported by the BBC.

Currys said the approach from Elliott 'significantly undervalued' the company. It's though Elliott, which bought Waterstones in 2018, might put in a higher offer for the chain.

Now Chinese company, JD.com, has said it is in the very early stages of a possible bid for the retailer.

Currys has more than 800 stores worldwide, with around 300 stores and 15,000 staff in the UK.

The retailer reported last month that underlying sales were down 3% over the Christmas trading period.
