New road surface for Ruardean High Street
By Sarah Wood | 13th October 2020
Resurfacing work will start on Ruardean High Street on Thursday (15th October), with a road closure in place.
The work will be carried out between 9.30 am and 3.30pm for seven days from Thursday 15th to Friday 23 October (excluding the weekend).
The machinery needed for this work is large, so the High Street will need to be closed between St. John's Road and The Square for safety. Hart Lane, along with a section of School Rd and Cats Hill will also be closed, as the junctions where they join the High Street will also be benefitting from a smooth new surface. A signed diversion will be in place suitable for all vehicle types.
Councillor Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways said: "This is a major resurfacing scheme and will really make a difference. We know that a full closure of the High Street will be inconvenient, but we are doing the work outside peak hours to help minimise the disruption. Our £150m investment into Gloucestershire's roads focuses on schemes like this - where we can use resurfacing as a long term solution for getting rid of potholes."
Councillor Terry Hale, local county councillor for Ruardean said: "I'm really pleased this scheme is going ahead. This is the main road through Ruardean and this significant resurfacing work will transform the village."
