A historic pub in the heart of a Gloucestershire village is about to go under a renovation that will see it turned in to an up-market French-style brasserie.
The King's Arms in Prestbury has seen its doors shut since December when Crown Carveries decided to close the Grade II listed inn due to the need to undertake structural work.
But documents submitted to Cheltenham Borough Council in the last week suggest that the building, parts of which date back to the 17th century, has new owners.
The White Brasserie Company Ltd have submitted plans to alter the entrance to the building as well as carry out minor internal renovations.
Set up by renowned restaurateur Raymond Blanc in 2013, the White Brasserie Company now run 19 other establishments, the majority of which are within the M25.
They have branched out from the capital, opening in Cambridge, Thame in Oxfordshire and most recently Horsham in West Sussex, but Prestbury would be the furthest outlying outlet yet.
According to their website, the White Brasserie Company are: "warm and welcoming with a unique combination of a traditional pub serving French brasserie food with an English twist."
A coaching inn since the 17th century, the King's Arms operated as a Beefeater for much of the last 30 years before becoming a carvery in the early 2000s.
It has a huge groundfloor serving area including a bar and snugs close to the High Street in the original 17th century building and a converted 18-19th century stable block that has covers for more than 125.
The King's Arms has plenty of competition within Prestbury with The Plough on Mill Street a short walk across St Mary's Churchyard that has one of the best pub gardens in the county.
The third pub within half a mile is The Royal Oak on The Burgage, which was recently bought by the Butcombe Brewery after previously operating successfully as a free house.
The plans for the renovation of the King's Arms have been validated by Cheltenham Borough Council and will now be put forward for public consultation.
