New location planned for city centre Post Office

Gloucester's main Post Office in King's Square may be on the move.

Plans have been drawn up to relocate it from King's Square to a counter service in the nearby WH Smith store in King's Walk.

The Post Office is looking at the move as part of a scheme to relocate 40 Post Office branches throughout the country by 2019.

The Post Office says the relocation will enable it to offer better services and longer hours of opening including Sundays.

But speaking on BBC Radio Gloucestershire, Labour city councillor Kevin Stephens said he has concerned that the new Post Office counter at WH Smiths would not have the capacity to cope with the level of demand.

The Post Office will be holding a six-week public consultation into the proposals.
