New café and bakery planned for Gloucester

Thirteen jobs could be created if a new bakery and sandwich business goes ahead.

Planning permission has been submitted for the new shop on an industrial estate east of the city centre.

The proposed scheme includes a 112 sq metre freestanding pod unit, to be occupied by Greggs, as well as an associated outdoor seating area.

The 0.04-acre development will sit next to Screwfix, in full view of the Metz Way and Eastern Avenue intersection in Gloucester.

The proposed café unit will have direct access to the bordering cycle and pedestrian route, putting it within walking distance of many residential and commercial areas.

The development aims to serve hot and cold food products and drinks to local workers and visitors to Eastern Avenue Trading Estate as well as other nearby employment areas including Chancel Close and Chase Lane Industrial Estates and Eastbrook Road, together with Gloucester Retail Park and Metz Way Retail Park.

The proposal is expected to create 13 jobs (3 full-time and 10 part-time).

The application states that "Greggs has identified Eastern Avenue Trading Estate as an ideal opportunity to expand its offer within Gloucester.

"It should be stressed that the existing Greggs at 19a Southgate Street and 28 Clarence Street in Gloucester City Centre will remain trading."
