New BBC community radio show to champion county’s undiscovered talent

A new community radio show has launched on BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

Running every Sunday from 6-10pm, the programme will champion undiscovered talent and provide four hours of dedicated content for the area's Black and Asian communities.

While all ethnicities and backgrounds are reflected in the station every day of the week, Radio Gloucestershire wanted to create a purpose-built, dedicated show for those communities.

Last night's show looked into the world of Korean cooking and featured an interview with Tanya Maniktala, star of the hit new BBC drama A Suitable Boy.

Presenter Manny Masih also spoke to Pradeep Bhardwaj, who has been helping Indian nationals unable to return home from the UK due to coronavirus, and found out how the Caribbean island of Grenada is preparing to welcome its first British tourists in months - right in the middle of hurricane season.

The show broadcasts across Gloucestershire and Wiltshire and will include an exciting new playlist of world music.

Manny, who lives in Cheltenham and has been broadcasting for more than 20 years, said: "Our Black and Asian communities are a huge part of the area's culture.

"In Gloucester alone, more than 75 languages are spoken. I'd love to get someone who speaks each of those languages on air.

"The Community Show is for the Black and Asian communities, but also for anyone who wants to learn more about other cultures. There will be music, interviews and great chat, so there's something for everyone."

Tune into the Manny Masih Show on BBC Radio Gloucestershire online, the BBC Sounds app, on DAB or at 104.7FM. Last night's show is available on BBC Sounds now.
