The newly built Hunts Grove Primary Academy has celebrated its official opening with a student assembly and afternoon tea.

Members of the school community were joined by Crest Nicholson and Willmott Dixon, who built the £6.5m primary and nursery school, for the celebration.

As part of the celebration a time capsule was unveiled and Andrew Dobson, managing director of Crest Nicholson Strategic Projects, and the headteacher Glenn Philcox spoke to the students about their new school and their schooling and career ambitions.

Located in Gloucestershire, Hunts Grove Primary Academy will meet the needs of families living in the wider Hunts Grove community, which comprises of 2,450 new homes.

The state-of-the-art education facility will provide places for 420 new school pupils.

The new school features 14 classrooms, a technology suite, large multi-use games area and grass sports pitch.

To mark the opening, the students put together a time capsule that will be opened by future members of the school community.

Andrew Dobson, MD of Crest Nicholson Strategic Projects, said: "The official opening celebration of Hunts Grove Primary Academy marked an important milestone for the growing local community, and eight weeks into the school term the pupils are already thriving.

Glenn Philcox, headteacher at the school, said: "The staff, parents and pupils have been very excited since moving into their new school. We are all looking forward to building a vibrant school community in our amazing new site.
