National Star, a charity supporting young people with learning difficulties and disabilities in Gloucestershire has opened its second charity shop in Cheltenham.

The new shop sells a range of high-quality clothes, books and homeware items and is situated in the parade of shops next to Morrisons in Up Hatherley. It was officially opened by National Star student Jak and former National Star student and adventurer Adam Stanton-Wharmby.

Tina Walsh, retail operations manager for National Star said: "National Star is proud to be part of Gloucestershire's education and long-term care. Cheltenham has supported us so well with the first shop that we wanted to truly embed ourselves into the community,"

"Not only will the shop be an important way for us to raise our profile with shoppers, but the shop will also provide vital work experience for the students."

National Star supports young people with complex disabilities and learning difficulties so that they can realise their aspirations. The charity shop will provide National Star with vital funds to ensure it has the specialist facilities and equipment these young adults need.

Adam said: "I am so pleased to help National Star open its new charity shop. Having a retail presence on the high street will mean that National Star can break down barriers and raise awareness of its work in supporting people with disabilities."

Adam, from Cheltenham, has just completed a challenge to travel from John O'Groats to Land's End in what is believed to be the world's first Formula 1 modified / upgraded powered wheelchair.He travelled 874 miles in all weather, including snow and hail, to finish his epic journey in 22 days. Adam is waiting to hear officially that his efforts have achieved him a world record.

"We are only as good as our donations so we would welcome your pre-loved treasures which now need a new home," said Tina. "Every donation will make a difference to the young people we work with."

The charity was supported by BiGDUG which donated warehouse and office equipment.
