Moonpig to become largest card retailer in Europe
By Sarah Wood | 23rd August 2018
Online card company, Moonpig, is set to become Europe's biggest card retailer, after its parent company, Photobox Group, acquired Dutch rival, Greetz.
Photobox Group, which also owns Spanish retailer Hoffman, already trades across 15 markets in Europe, and reported revenues of £325 million in the year to 30th April 2017, as reported by Retail Gazette.
This latest takeover positions the company as a leader in the two largest card markets in Europe - the UK and the Netherlands.
The move comes during roubled times for the UK market, which saw rival Card Factory post a profit warning earlier this month.
Greetz is a clear market leader in the Netherlands, maintaining a year-on-year growth rate of 25 per cent, selling 7.5 million cards last year. It said joining Photobox would help it access talent and creativity from across Europe, as the company continues to grow.
