A 57 year old local man has been arrested by Gloucestershire Police on suspicion of making an explosive substance for unlawful purposes.

He was held following the execution of a warrant in Brooklyn Road, Cheltenham this morning.

A police spokesperson said: "We can confirm that a 57 year old local man has been arrested on suspicion of making an explosive substance for unlawful purposes.

"While investigations are underway police have evacuated the residents of three properties in Brooklyn Road. We are asking people to avoid the area at this time.

"We are working with other blue light services to ensure everyone's safety and will keep people informed."
