Man from Forest of Dean admits to drugs offences
By Court reporter | 8th November 2021
A man arrested after police found a stash of drugs and £5,360 in cash at a Lydney house during a children's party has admitted two offences of offering cocaine for supply.
At Gloucester Crown Court Alan Ballinger, 26, of Coniston Road, Lydney, pleaded guilty to offering to supply a Class A controlled drug between 2-5th Sept 2020 and a similar offence between August 28, 2020 and September 6, 2020.
The judge, Recorder Anna Vigars QC, agreed to bail Ballinger for a pre-sentence and medical reports to be prepared.
Defence solicitor Matthew Harbinson said he required the medical reports so the court would have details of the effects on Ballinger of a motorcycle crash.
Mr Harbinson said: "The medical evidence relates to a very serious road traffic collision when he was knocked off his motorbike and sustained a number of broken bones."
"That led to a period of unemployment - and that in turn led to the offending behaviour."
The case was adjourned till December 3 for sentencing.
At an earlier hearing of the case, Cheltenham Magistrates were told that a children's party was in full swing at a house in Station Road, Lydney, when police arrived at the premises and found £4,000 to £5,500 worth of cocaine and £5,360 cash inside a JD sports bag, owned by Ballinger, which was hidden in a thorny hedge.
Two phones allegedly owned by Ballinger were also found and they had evidence of Class A drug dealing on them.
Ballinger was in attendance at the party and was arrested.
