A 23-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated public order on Tuesday night (April 18) after it was reported that a racially offensive remark had been made to a Forest Green Rovers player.
He has since been released on bail with conditions not to enter Gloucestershire unless to answer bail or for a prearranged solicitor appointment, not to go to Forest Green and not to contact any person employed by Forest Green Rovers Football Club.
There is a zero-tolerance approach to racial abuse, and we continue to work alongside the Football Association and Forest Green Rovers Football Club as part of an investigation.
A spokesperson from Forest Green Rovers said: "Forest Green Rovers are disappointed to learn that one of our players was subject to racial abuse from a Fleetwood Town supporter (Tuesday) evening.
"The incident happened in the first half of the game. A male was escorted out of the ground, handed to police and was subsequently arrested.
"There is no place for racism in football and society. We will continue to assist Gloucestershire Police and the Football Association with their enquiries.
"The club will make no further comment at this time."
