Man arrested after woman's car stolen in knifepoint robbery

A man has been arrested in connection with an incident where a woman's car was stolen in Gloucester Friday night (November 5).

At around 7.40pm police received a report that a man had approached a woman and asked her to hand over her car keys.

He threatened her with a knife during the incident which happened outside a supermarket in Mead Road, Abbeymead.

After taking the keys the man then fled in the vehicle. Officers were deployed to the area; however, the vehicle was not located.

Approximately two hours later police were alerted to the vehicle travelling in Berkeley and officers, including armed police, were deployed.

The vehicle was safely brought to a stop and a 29-year-old man from Dursley was arrested on suspicion of robbery and driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Officers who attended were also assisted by an off-duty officer from the British Transport Police and a member of the public who used their delivery van to help block an escape route.

The suspect remained in police custody Saturday morning (November 6). A knife was also recovered from the vehicle.

The victim was physically uninjured but shaken by the ordeal.
